you will be able to get Microsoft Office programs onto the netbook, but most netbooks do not have a CD drive, which means you will have to copy the contents of the Office disk to a memory stick or something, and then look for the ‘setup.exe’ file on the memory stick. this should work

p.s. make sure you dont exceed the ’3 installations’ you are allowed by Microsoft

A netbook is like a small laptop. The netbook was created so you can carry it around more easily like to school to take notes. You can do mostly any thing you can on a laptop. Yes, you can use the internet and use MSN. It cannot however, play games as well though because it is so small it does not have good graphic drivers.

There’s one on sale now for less than $ 300.
I’m not sure what make, but it is a msi.
I’ll include it once I find out.

will it be a suitable laptop for my needs?

A LOT OF MEMORY.
a lot a lot.
for pictures, video, etc.
&&at least 2 thumb drive slots.
+one cd also.

windows.. xp preferred over vista.
vista seems too complicated and a waste..

does it freeze a lot?
because a lot of my patience goes to waiting for my computer to load and unfreeze.

it should be able to have various programs open at once.
i.e. microsoft word, itunes, firefox.

it does have word programs right?
because my friends have bought new laptops/pcs with no microsoft, but its windows so yeahhh..

doe sit have extra stuff?
like external speakers [doesnt everything have that?]
web cam &etc.

lastly, battery life.
2 hours is enough for me.
its not like i take it around.

uhhhmmm. i think thats it..can you guys answer my questions/ list some pros and cons/ and main problems with this particular “netbook”

MSI netbooks are good, but also have a look at ASUS EEE PC, Dell Mini, HP Mini, etc.

a. What kind of civil lawsuit from customers is Walmart trying to avoid? Explain your answer.

b. Assume that the State of Georgia law requires every store to have a gun detection device at the entrance to every store to protect employees and customers. Walmart did not. How would this information help a customer or an employee if they decide to sue Walmart if they were injured by Longton? (Name the doctrine they would rely on and explain how it would help them in their lawsuit.)

c. Assume that Walmart did have a gun detection device in place but it failed to detect Longton’s weapon. One of the employees was injured by the gun.

i. As regards the gun detection device, what would be the best kind of civil lawsuit to bring for his injuries, negligence or product liability, and why?

ii. As to who can bring the lawsuit, does it matter that the gun detection device was purchased by Walmart and not the employee? Explain your answer.

iii. When shopping for gun detection devices, Walmart met with a number of sellers of these devices. I am having a little trouble with this question can anybody help me with the answer?

1) Four Wal-Mart employees have been fired after management said they violated company policy by disarming an alleged shoplifter who had pulled a gun inside the store.

2) Lori Poulsen, Justin Richins, Shawn Ray and Gabriel Stewart were all longtime workers at Wal-Mart’s Layton, Utah, store. Poulsen was an asset protection coordinator, Richins and Ray were asset protection associates, and Stewart was an assistant manager.

3) On Jan. 13, employees allegedly witnessed a man identified as Trent Allen Longton take a netbook computer out of the package and stuff it under his shirt. When Longton attempted to leave the store, he was confronted by Poulsen, who escorted him to a nearby office. The two were joined there by Ray, Richins and Stewart, Salt Lake City’s Deseret News reported.

4) Inside the office, Longton allegedly pulled out a loaded handgun and ran toward the office door, which was blocked by Ray, Richins and Stewart. Longton then allegedly grabbed Stewart and shoved the gun into his back. Concerned for their safety, the workers reacted forcefully and disarmed Longton.

5) In the police incident report, the investigating officer noted that the Wal-Mart employees acted in the “best interest and safety” of those around them. Longton, as it turned out, was a convicted felon who was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

6) Wal-Mart managers, however, disagreed. The following week, the four workers were fired for violating the company’s “Investigation and Detention of Shoplifters Policy.” The policy instructs employees to retreat if an individual brandishes a weapon.

7) “If during an approach or investigation, it becomes apparent that the suspect has a weapon or brandishes or threatens use of a weapon; all associates must disengage from the situation, withdraw to a safe position, and contact law enforcement,” reads a copy of the policy available online. “If at any point the suspect or any other involved person becomes violent, disengage from the confrontation, withdraw to a safe position and contact law enforcement.”
The next paragraph instructs employees to “put people first,” stating that protecting the physical well-being of “suspects, customers and Wal-Mart associates is your first priority.”

9) Speaking with the Deseret News last week, the dismissed employees said they had nowhere to go and were forced to subdue the suspect when he charged them. They also said they were not comfortable allowing an armed man into the store area where shoppers could be at risk.

10) Wal-Mart did not immediately respond to a request for comment today from AOL News.

11) In a previously released statement obtained by The Deseret News, managers defended their actions, saying the four put their safety “and potentially the safety of our customers and other associates in jeopardy.”

12) Stewart, who had been with Wal-Mart for 12 years, told the newspaper he is still trying to understand the company’s decision.”I honestly felt worse than when I had the gun to my back,” he said. “I honestly felt betrayed.”

I carry my concealed firearm into Wal-Mart every time I go there, which is once or twice a week. I have never seen any firearm detection devices at any Wal-Mart I have ever been in.

But if they did refuse to allow me to carry my firearm into the store and I was injured by someone holding up the store our just on a shooting spree, I would sue Wal-Mart for every nickle I could get out of them.

a netbook is basically a smaller limited hardware wise laptop often cheaper .

you can get on the internet if you have a wifi connection to get on

keyboard is a little smaller then standard laptop. er there good but dont expect a full blown laptop

*I may want to run engineering software on it, though this is not necessary, and I will most likely not use it for gaming*

Additionally:
1. Any idea how much battery life I’d get with this 6 cell Lithium Ion battery?
2. Is the mentioned “Windows 7 professional” the best/ a good version of windows 7 (I’m pretty sure there’s different types of windows 7, like my netbook is only ” windows 7 starter”)
3. Is quad core i7 pretty much the best there is? What about dual core i7.
4. Is the invidia graphics card any good?
5.Could this comp run design programs like solidworks?
6.If it says dvd burner does that mean it can burn regular cds too?
7. What is the difference between the “memory” and the “hard drive” and are the above specs top notch?
8. *I asked this in a different question, but would transfering my itunes library that fills my 30GB ipod slow this comp down in any way?

You need to let us know, what kind of engineering you will be doing. Also if you plan on making any 3d layouts on your computer.

Examples of Engineering types: Software: hardware; network; avionics; systems; I forgot the name to the types that deal with construction and building houses and cars, but thems too.

it depends on how you installed vista in the first place (you said you originally have an xp)

if you installed vista on a second partition or on a second drive, then you still have xp. all you hvae to do is to format the drive where vista is installed.

if you installed vista by upgrading xp or by formatting the local drive, then sorry, the only way to get back the to xp is to reinstall, and yes, you need a cd-drive for that.
